Version 2.6 (4/17/99) Corrected address and phone numbers in the program and help file.
Version 2.56 (3/25/99) Added support for modems that report the date and time as TIME=03/25 22:55.
Version 2.55 (3/9/99) Changed the uninstall program to only delete the actual files installed and not the entire subdirectory that the program was installed in. When the uninstall is finished, you will need to delete this subdirectory manually. Also when only the area code is received for the caller id number, the program will add 000-0000 as the phone number which will allow you to block these calls by adding this 000-0000 number to the block call database.
Version 2.52-2.54 (2/1/99) If you have an out of area number and a name other than OUT OF AREA NAME, then the speech engine will now say that name instead of OUT OF AREA. Change Creative Lab modem to use AT+VCID=1 for modem string.
Version 2.51 (12/7/98) Add new Areacode.dbf to include new area codes. Also fixed small bug that wouldn't announce area code and long distance wav file under certain circumstances.
Version 2.5 (11/15/98) Fixed a bug in the Find Ports routine where the caller is string would not transfer to the program settings. It would always say AT#CID=1 instead of the proper string. If you have tried the program in the past without success, please try the program again.
Version 2.45 (11/14/98) Minor modification so the Areacode.dbf file could handle 5 digit zip codes (as in the UK).
Version 2.42- 2.44 (10/28/98) Minor modification to re-activate modem after paging and fixed the data display to show the proper number of days when you have chosen to Reverse Date Display to DD/MM instead of MM/DD.
Version 2.41 (10/27/98) Shortened block off-hook duration to 1 second.
Version 2.38 -2.40 (9/3/98) You can now show existing notes in a text box witting the pop-up new call window. To do this, go to Tools > Settings > Window Size of "You Are Receiving a Call" Pop-up Screen > Show Notes > Save. Also fixed problem with a false call on startup when using the Rochelle Caller ID Plug. Modified resetting the modem after paging to eliminate errors with some modems.
Version 2.34-2.37 (7/30/98) Added final support for Remote Control for Talking Caller ID. Also, after a call is blocked, I eliminated sending the modem string to activate caller id since it should remain in effect even after a call is blocked.
Version 2.33 (7/15/98) Added the ability to have existing notes pop-up automatically when a call is received and you can specify normal or maximized. Also added support for Remote Control for Talking Caller ID which is not yet available as an add-on which will allow you to remotely retrieve the caller id information from any touch tone phone. A speech engine will read it to you through the phone line. Look for this new product soon.
Version 2.31 (7/10/98) Corrected problem on new installation that would take you to the Links tab instead of the Find Ports tab. Added a Test button on the Links tab to begin testing the new optional Remote Control for Talking Caller ID which will allow remote phone retrieval of the caller id information.
Version 2.3 (6/26/98) Fixed problem when deleting a caller than indicated it was always the last caller in the database and would delete the greeting, photos and notes for that caller. Added the ability to view the data file from a networked computer (requires an additional registration fee for each additional computer).
Version 2.27 (6/23/98) For beeper pagers, you can now enter a # in the Termination String field to have the paging routine check for a busy signal. If the pager number is busy it will retry. When the field is left blank, the paging routine does not check for a busy signal and the page will not go through if the pager number is busy. To get this feature to work, you will need to download the Full Shareware Version and run the setup program to install the new driver required. This version also fixes a bug where the pop-up call screen comes up when loading the program when a caller id plug in being used.
Version 2.26 (6/16/98) For the blind community, enabled all the Edit and View menu items when the View Call Log Without Phone Numbers option is enabled.
Version 2.25 (6/15/98) Added the ability to edit the call data. Go to Edit > Edit Caller.
Version 2.22 - V2.24 (6/3/98) Lets you configure the modem strings to take the phone off and on hook for blocking calls. Corrected incoming call message not working. When Reverse Speech for Names is selected, it now won't reverse "PAY PHONE". Fixed a non-existent tab on main screen.
Version 2.21 (5/29/98) V2.21 adds support for Practical Peripherals ProClass modems.
Version 2.2 (5/28/98) Adds support for paging companies using N,8,1 instead of E,7,1 for parity, start and stop bits. Go to Tools > Settings > Paging > Baud Rate for Paging and select a baud rate preceded by an "N". Alt-F now brings up File menu and Cntl-F brings up Find dialog box.
Version 2.16 - 2.19 (5/14/98) Added an option to reverse the speech for names. Go to Tools > Settings > Audio to select this feature. One undesirable side effect is that it will pronounce business names backwards. Added support for ISDN modems when the number is reported as FM:123456789 TO:1234567.
Version 2.15 (5/6/98) Changed the character to separate multiple pagers from a comma to a ^ (carat character = shift-6). This was done to make it easier to program certain numeric pagers when you have to enter additional characters after the phone number which require commas. For example Skytel pagers have you dial an 800 number (1-800-759-8888) followed by a pin number (assume 1234567 for this example) and the # character. To accomplish this in the Pager Phone Numbers(s) field, enter 18007598888,,,,,1234567#, (the commas after the 800 number is to give time for the phone to connect before the pin number is sent and the final comma gives time between the # and the caller id number being sent). If you are using multiple pagers, be sure and changed your commas to ^ characters to separate the pager numbers. Also changed the default text editor to Notepad. If Notepad is your default editor, when new notes are created the program enters ".LOG" at the beginning of the file. This causes Notepad to enter the current date and time at the end of the existing file and move the cursor right under it. This is a great feature to have your notes automatically date and time stamped and the cursor already where you want to begin taking notes.
Version 2.14 (5/2/98) Allows the # character in the Message Prefix and PostScript fields needed by SkyTel pagers. Added answer detection for ITU PC Caller ID Plug when combined with Rochelle Caller ID Plug for call waiting caller id calls.
Version 2.13 (4/30/98) Fixed bug which said "Page was not send because the call was answered" when it shouldn't have. This may have prevented some of your pages from going through.
Version 2.12 (4/29/98) Added enhanced support for the ITU
PC Caller ID Plug. Since this device cannot detect rings, this lets you specific a
port where a modem (or Rochelle Caller ID Plug) is attached to the same phone line to
detect the ringing. Using this option allows the program to count and log the number of
rings in the main data window and enables certain options on the Paging tab that weren't
available with the ITU PC Caller ID Plug alone.. If you also have a Rochelle Caller
ID Plug, you can specify this which also enables on/off hook notification and
answer notification. This is an awesome feature since it gives the program the
ability to use all the enhanced features of the Rochelle Caller ID Plug while also using
the call waiting caller id feature of the ITU PC Caller ID Plug. Now when you are talking
on a phone that has a call waiting caller id device, the program will show and announce
the person trying to call in. This lets you and others (who can see or hear the output
from your speakers) know that a particular person is calling in while you are on the
Version 2.11 (4/26/98) You can now use wildcard characters in all four of the databases (Block Calls, Names Lookup, Pager Selected and Pager Excluded). This allows you to specify a range of phone numbers to block, for name lookups, for including and excluding pages. Use the question mark character instead of a numeral to mean any number. For example in the Block Calls Database, if you want to block all phone numbers between and including 924-5900 and 924-5999 in your area code, you would enter 924-59??. To block all calls starting with the prefix of 924 in your area code, you would enter 924-????. To block all calls from the area code 602, you could enter (602) ???-????. Added function key F10 to save current settings.
Version 2.1 (4/25/98) Adds automatic formatting for international users that receive a dash after the area code in the raw caller id data & fixes database bugs. Adds support for South America's 2 digit area code + 6 digit numbers. Adds support for the CID-PC1 caller id plug and fixes Ring counting for Rochelle caller id plug. Added new options to repeat names and numbers after each ring (see the Audio tab in Settings). Added options to select whether to send PRIVATE NAMES calls and calls blocked by the program to you pager (see the Paging tab in Settings). Added ability to display call log without phone numbers (for visually impaired users using a screen reader).
Version 2.0 (4/3/98) I named this V2.0 to release as an update to various shareware sites which incorporates all of the changes listed below.
Version 1.9 (4/3/98) Fixed audio setting so phone numbers could be announced when text-to-speech and sound files for names were turned off.
Version 1.8.8 (3/26/98) In the Audio settings for "Play Income Sound File When Phone Starts Ringing", added "Each Ring" which plays the incoming.wav file each time the phone rings, and "CID Only" which plays the file only after the caller id information has been receive and it is not a PRIVATE NUMBER or OUT OF AREA #. Also fixed a bug that would not remove Private and Out of Area calls from the database when you attempted to delete them.
Version 1.8.7 (3/15/98) Added the ability to exclude calls from paging received between user specified minutes from last call. This is so you can call in for a message between these times without triggering a page of your call. Go to Tools, Settings, Paging to enable this feature. Added the ability to reverse the date display for international users to DD/MM. Go to Tools, Setting, Formatting and check this box to enable it. Revised the Phone Directory so, for each caller in the database, all of the options currently in effect for this caller including Greeting, Photo, Notes, Call Blocking, Name Lookup, Pager Selected and Pager Excluded database entries are shown.
Version 1.8.6 (3/11/98) Minor changes to correct notes button when pop-up screen is maximized. Also made delete caller a little faster. Attempted to fix caps lock and num lock problems when a new call arrives.
Version 1.8.5 (3/9/98) You can now import photos, sounds and create notes for Private and Out of Area calls. Corrected formatting for international numbers when the phone company sends spaces and dashes within the number. Added support for the ITU PC Caller ID Plug including ability to play incoming call announcement. You can now add to and edit the area code lookup database (Areacode.dbf) to add new area codes. International users can add there own area codes (and delete the US area codes if desired).
Version 1.8.4 (3/7/98) Keep notes of people that call and pop them up when they call again. When the new call window pops up, a new button is shown that you can click on that says either "Create New Notes" or "Open Existing Notes". When you create notes for the first time, the program puts the name and number of the caller and the date and time the file was created.
Version 1.8.3 (3/6/98) Fix for some database problems that happened with V1.8.2.
Version 1.8.2 (3/5/98) Added alternate phone number formats based on the area code of the incoming number. For example, in Israel, they have 9 digit phone numbers, some with a 2 digit area code and 7 digit number and others with a 3 digit area code and 6 digit number. The program lets you format these two different types of numbers differently. The Block Calls Database edit menu now gives you the ability to directly block Private Number and Out of Area # calls. You can now also add new entries with the block by name option.
Version 1.8.1 (3/3/98) Corrected numeric paging problems which started with V1.8. Number being sent was not correct and prefix and postscript fields would not verify.
Version 1.8 (3/2/98) Program now has support for international phone numbers. Go to Tool, Settings and click on the Formatting tab to configure the program for international phone numbers. You will now notice a new Dial tab which now supports up to five 10 digit dialing prefixes in which you do not dial the long distance prefix before the number. There is also a new option in the Audio tab to Use Text to Speech for Numbers Instead of Pre-recorded Sound (wav) files. You can now dial from any of the database windows. The block calls database now says BLOCKED BY NAME for calls which are being blocked by name instead of the previous code of (000) 000-0000. You will need to update your Block Calls Database for any of these entries by selecting each item then press Edit - Block Highlighted Call by Name.
Version 1.7.5 (2/9/98) Program can now automatically detect the presence of the Rochelle Caller ID Plug and the Whozz Calling Box in the Search for Ports. If either of these devices is specified as the Modem Type, the program will check to see if it is attached to the computer upon startup, and if it is not, it will generate an error message. If you have problems with this error message even when the device is attached, you can have the program ignore the error by go to Tool, Settings, and check the box that says "Do Not Check for CID String Errors". Areacode.dat file has now been named Areacode.dbf so it won't show in the open file dialog box. Please delete the old file Areacode.dat from the program directory.
Version 1.7.4 (2/7/98) More changes to for Rochelle Plug to check for line seizure to reduce false calls under noisy line conditions. A new option to 'Check for Line Seizure' in the Program Settings can be checked to make sure the signal is valid. Clear this check box in foreign countries. Also improved paging reliability while screen savers are active. Changed order of processing calls to enter caller in log before pop-up screen instead of after. Please let me know if you find any problems with this method.
Version 1.7.3 (2/3/98) Minor change to improve caller id reception for Rochelle Caller ID plug under noisy line conditions. A new option to 'Show Line Noise Data' will show false signals filtered out by the program to indicate how much noise you are getting.
Version 1.7.2 (2/1/98) Added more screen saver code to wake up program including the paging wait loop which wouldn't execute with some screen savers running. Area code will now accept up to a five digit area code for foreign countries. Added fix for Motorola modems when the number only is sent so it will still log the call. Improved ring counting for optional Rochelle Caller ID Plug.
Version 1.7.1 (1/27/98) Minor code changes for processing caller id data from serial port including ring counting for optional caller id plug.
Version 1.7 You can now specify how long the 'You Are Receiving A Call" pop-up window is displayed in the Program Settings. In the Names Lookup Database, the program can now replace all of the existing names in the database with the new one you specify. It will ask you if you would like to so when you add or edit an entry in the Names Lookup Database. Also, if you have a large photo which is displayed when a call comes in and it doesn't entirely fit on the screen, the program will now move the picture into full view when it would normally close the window and will remain on the screen for an additional amount of time equal to the configured time to leave the window open.
Version 1.6.9 Added the ability to block calls by name in addition call blocking by number. To do this, go into the Block Calls Database, and chose Edit, Block Highlighted Call by Name. Also added "Wait until On hook before Paging" in the Pager Settings. This option is only available if you are using the optional Rochelle Caller ID Plug.
Version 1.6.8 Added the option to announce the State and major cities from which a long distance call is originating. To activate this feature go to Tools, Settings, Audio Settings and in the combo box that is labeled "Say State From Which a Long Distance Call is Originating" select Always or No Greeting. If "No Greeting is Selected, it will not the State when a custom greeting exists. You can also check the box that says "Include Major Cities When Announcing State" to have the program include the major cities in the announcement. I will soon include a link on my main web page to download the latest area code database so you can keep the announcements up-to-date when new area codes are added. Also added a new option to "Print Caller ID Information directly to Printer as Calls Are Received" which is contained in the Program Settings.
Version 1.6.7 Removed code to wake up screen savers since it seemed to cause some users to lose caller id information. If you are having problems with V1.6.6, please download this version. I will research the screen saver problem for a future release.
Version 1.6.6 Minor bug fix. Fixed error when closing program when com port had been closed. Also changed the maximum calls per session for the unregistered version from five calls to three calls. Also added code to wake up screen savers.
Version 1.6.5 Small cosmetic changes and bug fix for "You Are Receiving a Call" screen when maximized.
Version 1.6.4 Added support for distinctive ringing. If you have distinctive ringing on your line, be sure to add the modem command to activate it to the end of the "Modem String to Activate Caller ID" in the Program Settings. When this is activated, the program will indicate from which line the call is originating. It shows the information in the last column which will show something like "3 RgA" meaning there were 3 rings on line A.
Version 1.6.3 Program now counts the number of new calls received since you last reviewed the call log. The number shows up in the caption including when it is minimized. To reset this, simply click on any item in the main call window. Also added the ability to choose which com port to use for call blocking. This is useful if you have two modems and need to specify a different port for blocking and re-dialing.
Version 1.6.2 In the Pager Settings added a check box "Exclude Calls from Paging When Phone Rings X Times or Less" where X is a user input combo box. This feature is useful if you don't want to be paged when someone has answered the phone. If someone usually answers the phone by the fourth ring, you would choose 4 rings for this box. If the phone rings five times or more, you will receive a page, otherwise the program assumes someone answered the phone by the fourth ring. Substituted the help icon with an icon that looks like a modem. You can click on this icon to close the com port to run another program which needs the com port. When you do this, a red X is shown over the modem informing you the com port is closed. To open it, click on the same icon. A new warning message tells you when you are about to delete the last record for a caller and tells you that if you delete this record, it will no longer show in the phone directory and any recorded greeting or photo will be deleted.
Version 1.6.1 Added an Audio Tab in the Setting to make more room in the Program Settings. In the Program Settings, I added Advanced Modem Settings which allows you to select the modem baud rate which the caller id information is sent from the modem to the program. This is normally 1200 baud, but some modems require 9600 baud or characters are dropped (see next paragraph for specific modems). You can try to change this to a higher baud rate for improved performance (if it doesn't work, change it back to 1200). Also added Do Not Check for CID String Errors so no error message is sent when the modem does not respond to the CID string. Leave this unchecked except for debugging or other special needs. Added Reverse Name and Number for Caller ID Information (as reported by modem). This was added since a few modems and/or phone exchanges put the name in the number field and the number in the name field. Check this box only if you are having this problem. Also, added Reverse Name When it Contains a Comma. Since some phone exchanges send the last name then a comma then the first name, if you select this box, the program will show the first name and then the last name in the call log. Added ability to eliminate paging between the hours you select. To set this up, go to Tools, Settings, Pager Settings and check the box labeled "Turn Paging Off From". Then fill in the hour, minute and am/pm fields for both the "From" and "Until" time fields. This is useful if you leave your computer running late at night and don't want the program to page you while sleeping. Fixed a problem for certain areas of Canada which showed a blank in the NMBR field but sent the number in the MESG field. The Prefix and Postscript for beeper pagers now allows a comma in case you need to send a digit and pause before the rest of the number is sent.
The modems I know which require 9600 baud are Aspen, Phoebe, Cirrus Logic Chipset and Motorola Voice Surfer. In the Modem Type (Caller ID Capable) field, I eliminated the following: Reverse Name & Number, Special 9600 Baud, Special No Error Check and Reverse at 9600 Baud. I did this because all of the functions of these can be set in the new Advanced Modem Settings and wanted to eliminate confusion and duplication.
Version 1.6 This update has only very minor cosmetic and program changes. It was mainly to have an even version number for release to the WinSite Archives and SimTel.Net.
Version 1.5.7 Added the "No Greeting" field to the "Always Say Phone Number Even When Name is Announced". This option will say the phone number only for calls with no custom recorded greeting. Also, for calls coming from the area code in the "No Prefix for Area Code" box, the long distance greeting is not played (since they are in the same metro area).
Version 1.5.6 Added the ability to view all the calls from the selected caller. Select the caller in the list, then go to the view menu and press View All Calls from Selected Caller.
Version 1.5.5 In the Program settings, added a field called "No Prefix for Area Code". If you are in a location with another area code nearby which does not require you to dial a "1" before dialing the other area code, enter that other area code in this box. The program will not dial a "1" before dialing the area code and phone number for this area code.
Version 1.5.4 Added the ability to show the incoming caller's name and number the maximum size of the screen or minimized in addition to the normal size. To change this, go to Tools, Settings and in the field labeled [Window Size of "You are Receiving a Call" Pop-up Screen] you can select Normal, Minimized or Maximized. Also, if you use the Tools, Test CallerID, the right hand column will indicate "Test". When you manually enter an entry the right hand column will indicate "Input". Also, when you manually enter an entry in the caller log or phone directory, the program will now ask you if you want to add this to the Names Lookup Database so that the name you choose will appear in the call log instead of the name sent by the phone company. Also added the ability to go directly to this website by clicking on the link on the About screen or on the Tools menu by selecting Go to Internet Home Page.
Version 1.5.3 Added ability to eliminate the audio between the hours you select. To set this up, go to Tools, Settings and check the box labeled "Turn Audio Off From". Then fill in the hour, minute and am/pm fields for both the "From" and "Until" time fields. This is useful if you leave your computer running late at night and don't want the program to disturb anyone sleeping. Also added a new column to the call log named "RINGS" which displays how many times the phone rang before the phone was answered or the calling party hung up. This information is also sent to Alphanumeric pagers. For users with the Rochelle Caller ID plug, this column will continue to show the call duration if the phone was answered, and if it was not answered, it will show the number of rings.
Version 1.5.2 Added an modem type which says 'Reverse Name & Number' for users that have modems (or phone companies) which for some reason reverse the name and the phone number. If you experience a problem with the phone number showing up in the name field and the name showing up in the name field, please select this option for the Modem Type in the Program Settings.
Version 1.5.1 Eliminated the message screen when you view an activity log larger than 30K. The caption will now say (only last 30K shown). The simulate sample phone call for CallerID and paging now shows '800 INFORMATION' instead of my number since I was receiving long distance hang up calls from people testing the redialing feature after simulating a sample phone call.
Version 1.5.0 Improved the first time setup to automatically search for the modem string to activate caller id. Added the ability to send a page to both an Alphanumeric and Beeper pager at the same time if they both dial into the same TAP port. Added a Pager Exclude Database so you can have the program page you for all calls except those you enter into the Pager Exclude Database. Enabled printing of the Block Calls Database, Names Database, Pager Selected Database and Pager Exclude Database.
Version 1.4 build 46: Fixed a problem when dialing pagers with more than 7 digits in the phone number.
Version 1.4 build 45: Fixed a problem on number of days to load when the system date was set to a non-standard format. Also fixed a problem viewing activity log when it exceeded 60K.
Version 1.4 build 44: Fixed a problem with dialing if a dash was entered as part the Pager Phone Number(s).
Version 1.4 build 42 & 43: Corrected the following bugs: License Agreement did not show when Password button was pushed. The Program Settings screen would not display all of the settings under certain circumstances.
Version 1.4 build 41: Added ability to print Activity Log, License Agreement, Readme file and Order Form.
Version 1.4 build 40: Used a text box instead of notepad for viewing Activity Log, Readme and Order form. Also fixed a problem with receiving some long distance caller id information.
Version 1.4 build 39: Added the ability to send a page to multiple pagers. To send the same page to more than one pager, put a comma between the pager ID numbers or pager phone numbers in the Pager ID Number(s) field or Pager Phone Number(s) field.
Version 1.4 build 36: Made Activity.log file shareable so you can view it while it is open.
Version 1.4 build 35: Forced the program to write data file to disk after each call. This will prevent any data loss if you have a power failure or system crash. Also added an option to Log Activity to File on Startup.
Version 1.4 build 34: Added the ability to save and view a log file for the Activity Log window.
Version 1.4 build 33: Added the ability to temporarily close the com port so you can run another program that needs the com port. Go to Tools, Close Com Port to activate and deactivate. Also added a new field to the Program Settings you can enter the Modem String to Re-Dial. This allows you to change the dialing method to pulse or force the modem to wait for a dial tone so you can dial with a stutter tone (phone companies often send a stutter tone when you have voice mail waiting).
Version 1.4 build 32: Added the option to dispatch numeric pages through your paging company's TAP port. Instead of dialing your pager's number directly, the program dials into the paging company's modem to send your pages. This increases the reliability of numeric pages since the program can detect if a page does not go through and will re-try the page until successful.
Version 1.4 build 31: Added call blocking. When you receive any calls from phone numbers which you have entered into the Block Calls Database, the computer will instantly hang up on them and alert you that their call was blocked.
Version 1.4 build 30: Fixed "Exclude Answered Calls from Paging" function and an error when minimizing the Names Database window.
Version 1.4 build 29: Added duration timing. This only works with the optional caller id plug. This new feature times each call and displays it in the caller log.
Version 1.4 build 28: Added the ability to display a chosen number of days in the caller id log file. A new combo box called "Days To Load" has been added to the Program Settings. The value selected in this box determines how many days of data are displayed on the main caller id log screen.
Version 1.4 build 27: Updated the readme.txt file.
Version 1.4 build 26: Added support for the U.S. Robotics Sportster 56K modem.
Version 1.4 build 18:Added the ability to display of photo of the person who is calling. Just import a bitmap file for each phone number you want to see a photo for and it will appear instantly when that person calls.
Version 1.4 build 13: The sound (wav) files for the program have been re-recorded by a female. I think she sounds much better than my voice. These are not used to pronounce names, but are used for announcing phone numbers and other program greetings (such as "Private name and number" and "Out of area".
